In roulette there are several types of bets which can be played and most of them can be categorized under two broad groups – the outside bets and the inside bets. This article will discuss the common outside bets played in the different roulette versions.
Outside bets include the “red or black”, “odd or even”, “high or low” and “dozens”. In the “red or black” bets the payout is 1:1 and the players bet whether the roulette ball will land on the red or black slots. In French, bets placed on red is known as “rouge” and those placed on black is called “noir”
Like the name suggests, in the ‘odd or even’ bets the players wager whether the ball will land on the slot with an odd or even number. In this type of bet ‘0’ and ‘00’ are not considered, they are neither odd nor even. The name of the odd bet is ‘impair’ and the even bet is ‘pair’ in French.
The other type of outside bet is the ‘high or low’ bet. High bets are those where the player bets that the ball will land on a number above 18 while in the low bets, the player bets that the number will fall between 1 and 18. The high and low bets are also known as ‘last 18’ and ‘first 18’ bets respectively. In French the high bets are called ‘passe’ while the low bets are called ‘manque’.
Another type of outside bet which the players can place is the ‘dozen’. In this bet the players bet on a group of twelve numbers at a time. For instance, the places can place their bets on 1 to 12, 13 to 24 and 25 to 36 and the bets are known as ‘premier douzaine’, ‘mayenee douzaine’ and ‘derniere douzaine’ respectively in French. The payout for the dozen bets is 2:1.
Though most of the players prefer to play the inside bets, playing the outside bets can also prove profitable. It is so because though the payouts are much smaller compared to those of the inside bets, the chances of winning incase of outside bets is much higher. So, for playing roulette successfully, playing a good combination of outside and inside bets is important.Tags : Roulette Bets
